American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

I have been a loyal fan of Rick's saffron pistachio ice cream for nearly 20 years, so I say this with a heavy heart - they changed the recipe and I sincerely wish they hadn't. The older recipe was less sweet, had larger pistachio chunks, and felt a bit less 'stretchy' and more creamy. The new recipe is not bad, if I were to have had it for the first time, but knowing what it used to be, I am quite bummed about it. Please Rick's - you were the best ice cream on the peninsula (I still dream of that sublime white chocolate ginger flavor) - can you bring back the old recipes? Much much appreciated from this once loyal fan.

They had a flavir called Computer chip and it was amazing! It had that hint of orange flavor with the white chocolate chips! Definitely a must try! The alphonso mango was super creamy and didnt have an artifical flavor to it. It's a small shop with a whole lot of variety! The line was about 20min long but it was worth the wait and moves pretty fast! Thank you guys for the awesome service and ice cream!

We got a custom ice cream cake from here for a party. The order process was a little clunky, but it went smoothly: I filled out a form on their website, they emailed me an invoice the next day, I paid, and the cake was ready when I stopped by to pick it up a few days later. Everyone loved the cake - we got so many unprompted comments about how delicious it was! We chose the herringbone design, with vanilla frosting, chocolate cake, and black raspberry crunch ice cream. A 9" cake was more than enough for 8 people - we only had maybe two-thirds of it and had leftovers for dessert the next few days.

5 stars β€œRick’s Rather Rich Ice Cream is straight-up magic. We sampled a bunchβ€”creamy, perfectβ€”and Blue Moon? Total shocker, loved it. Definitely recommend that one. The dining area’s awesome tooβ€”walls full of old-school pics that took me right back to kid days at my favorite spot. Brought the kids, they went nuts, we all just chilled there. Feel-good placeβ€”go now!” And hey, check these outβ€”real shots from the shop and that wild Blue Moon scoop.

Fantastic ice cream! I've eaten at both Rick's and Pints of Joy in the past, and just went went friends today to check it out under the new ownership. Flavors were fantastic! I had the tasting flight with Chai, ricotta and berry, thandai, and mango and each flavor was a winner.
